Better Fire Safety = Better Employee Productivity

No matter what industry you’re in and no matter what size company you’re running, keeping your workplace safe is a must for the wellness of your employees and for your customers.

When you take fire safety for granted and don’t take the appropriate measures to protect your business, everyone is at a greater risk for accidents that can be catastrophic for your people as well as for your bottom line.

When your employees and staff are properly trained, it lowers the risk that you’ll experience any loss of income, damage to property, or lost time due to accidents and injuries.

Employees are able to work with the peace of mind that comes with knowing that their actions minimize the risk of an accident occurring and are therefore able to be much more productive.

What you need to do today to maximize safety and productivity

There are some simple things you can do today to move your business towards a safer, more productive environment. No matter what business you’re in, here’s what that looks like:

  1. Identify Workplace Hazards - The first step to solving any problem in your business, safety or otherwise, is finding it. In fact, this is where our certified technicians start with every company we serve. Focus on the following categories:

    1. Equipment - Make sure that the machinery and tools your team use every day are in proper working order and make any needed repairs.

    2. Environment - Make sure your workspaces are properly lit, properly spaced, and don’t present any unnecessary fire, accident, or injury hazards for your team.

    3. Employee Behaviors - Watch your team go about their daily operations and make sure that the things they’re doing are in accordance with your fire safety plan. Ensure that your standard systems and processes are built to reduce risk.

  2. Invest in Fire Safety Equipment - Your facility needs the proper equipment to protect from fire and minimize the damage in the event of a fire incident. At a minimum, make sure you have the following:

    1. Fire Extinguishers

    2. Blankets

    3. Emergency Exits properly marked and lit

    4. First Aid Kit

    5. Fire and Smoke Alarm System

  3. Develop a Company-Wide Fire Safety Training Program - Just having the equipment isn’t enough. Make sure that your team is properly prepared to use each item and trained to perform in a way that reduces risk.

  4. Keep Emergency Exits Clear - No one can ever truly predict an emergency. Make sure that, per local fire ordinance, your emergency exits are clear and your team knows the proper escape routes.
