Assisted Living Facility Evacuated During Fire
02/10/2009
Eddy, TX - A kitchen fire forced the evacuation of some residents at an assisted living facility in Temple Tuesday afternoon.

The Temple Fire Department says an electrical fire started behind a wall switch at the Weston Inn Health Center around 12:20 when a liquid used for cleaning made contact with the switch.

Staff at the center safely evacuated 117 residents in less than five minutes.

“Staff did a wonderful job, very professional job of getting the residents out in a calm manner.

We had a good response also from Temple Police this morning, as well as Scott and White EMS, they were on the scene very quickly and assisting in the process also,” says Thomas Pechal of the Temple Fire Department.

The facility staff put the fire out with an extinguisher.

Firefighters blew the smoke out of the building and tested the air quality.
