What does good service really look like?

Imagine if you took your car to the mechanic for an oil change and found out later that instead of actually performing the maintenance on your vehicle, they just switched out the little sticker on your windshield.

You’d be furious, right?

But for most vehicle owners, they have no way of knowing if their auto shop actually does the maintenance they say they’re doing. They don’t know the signs to look for. That’s why most people hold on tight when they find a mechanic they trust.

Sadly, fire protection isn’t much different.

Even if you’ve had a fire protection company out to your facility lately, there’s a decent chance that they cut corners and didn’t treat your business with the care it deserves. Here’s a simple sign you can look for:

If your fire extinguishers have been recharged and serviced, they should have a verification collar ring on them, right around the base of the handle. The only way to equip your extinguishers with one of these collars is to discharge the unit and remove the valve so that it can be recharged. If your ring looks like it’s been cut and taped or stretched, or if it isn’t there at all, that should be a massive red flag!
