Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Service in Princeton, IN
You shouldn't have to keep the date. We do.

Most people glance at the date on an extinguisher and figure they're fine. The date only tells you when somebody last put hands on it. It doesn't tell you whether the work got done.
We inspect and service fire extinguishers out of our Princeton shop at 213 S Hall St. It's the one First-Line shop in Indiana — staffed Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, with after-hours emergency service when you need it. The techs come in a company truck and in uniform. Everybody is ICC certified and factory trained. You don't bring anything in. We come to you. Call 1-800-348-9604 when you're ready to get on the calendar.
What the tech looks at on each one
A tech walks the building and puts hands on every extinguisher. Each one is inspected and serviced. You keep working while we do it.
On each unit the tech checks the seal and pin, the pressure (or the weight on a CO2), the hose and nozzle, the shell for dents, rust, or leaks, and whether the label is readable and faces out. They also check how it's installed, whether you can get to it without moving something, and whether it's the right type for that spot.
Recharges, 6-year work, and hydro tests
We recharge on site when we can. Our trucks carry loaners.
Stored-pressure dry chemical extinguishers get discharged and an internal examination every six years before they're recharged. The valve comes off so the tech can look inside the cylinder. A new verification collar ring goes on under the valve. That ring only fits with the valve off, so a whole ring is how you know the work got done.
A hydro test checks the cylinder itself — every five years for CO2, water, and Class K, and every twelve years for most dry chemical. If a unit fails, it comes out of service and gets replaced. If testing and recharging would cost close to a new one, we'll tell you.
When one is due, we pull it during the regular visit. If it has to come back to the shop, a loaner goes up in that spot until yours is back. More on hydro testing, and on what good service really looks like.
Call 1-800-348-9604 and we'll put them on the calendar.
Around Princeton and Gibson County
Around town we take care of churches and lodges that sit empty between meetings, fire departments, public buildings, restaurants, schools, stores, and offices. A restaurant needs a Class K by the cook line; ABC works on grease, but Class K is made for a kitchen fire. The hood over the cook line is its own job every six months — see the Princeton shop page.
Gibson County also gives this shop some bigger work: an auto plant that runs a lot of extinguishers, a coal mine with equipment suppression, and excavating outfits with machines that need the same. When a handheld can't cover what a machine can throw at you, that's a vehicle and equipment suppression job.
From South Hall we also cover Vincennes, Washington, Mount Carmel, Illinois. Evansville is on the same US 41 route and has its own fire extinguisher service page.
What Indiana asks for
Indiana writes its own fire code and has its own state fire marshal. The inspector who comes through has the final say. Portable extinguishers go by NFPA 10 as Indiana adopts it — yearly service by qualified people. IOSHA expects a monthly check (your people can do it) and yearly maintenance (ours). Mines answer to MSHA, plants to OSHA, and if your site uses Avetta, our reports carry what it's looking for. We leave a report after every visit, and a copy stays at the site. More on Indiana fire extinguisher requirements. There's a sample on our fire extinguisher service page.
Between visits, and if one gets used
Somebody should look at every extinguisher once a month — in place, pin and seal whole, gauge in the green, nothing blocking it. Your people can do that. More on how often extinguishers need to be inspected.
If one gets used — a small fire, a broken pin, anything — it's out of service until it's recharged or replaced. Take it off the wall and call 1-800-348-9604. We offer 24-hour service for discharged units.
We've been doing this since 1984, over 40 years. We're 5-Star Rated on Google.
