LIFE SAFETY

When the power goes out, the lights have to show people the way out.

Exit signs and emergency lights sit there for years, and nobody notices them. They only matter the moment the power goes out, and in a fire or a storm, that’s when people need to find the door. Each one runs on a battery that has to hold up when it’s needed.

Exit sign and emergency lighting inspected and serviced

We install exit and emergency lights, inspect and service them, and put them on the same calendar as your extinguishers. We keep the due dates. You don’t have to think about them.

What goes wrong

Batteries wear out, and lamps burn out. A sign can look lit every day on building power and still go dark the minute the power drops, because the battery behind it is dead. You can’t tell by looking at it.

How they’re tested

NFPA 101, the Life Safety Code, sets the schedule. Every 30 days, each light gets what’s called the 30-day, 30-second test. You push the test button and hold it for 30 seconds to make sure it switches to battery and stays lit. Once a year, they have to run on battery for a full 90 minutes.

Your people can do the 30-day test, or we can.

How a visit goes

  1. We walk every exit and every path out of the building.
  2. We test each exit sign and emergency light on battery.
  3. We replace the batteries and lamps that have quit, and fix what we can on the spot.

You keep running while we do it.

Who it’s for

Any building that has to show people the way out: stores, churches, plants, healthcare, schools, and kitchens.

If an exit is dark

A dark exit sign or a dead emergency light is something the fire marshal will write up. Worse, it’s a way out nobody can see. Call. Our 24-hour service covers a required exit that’s dark.

Questions

The sign’s lit. Doesn’t that mean it works?
Not always. On building power, it stays lit even if the battery is dead. The test is what tells you.
Can you do the lights and the extinguishers together?
Yes. They go on the same calendar, and one call covers both.
Can you take over from the company we use now?
Yes. We’ll test every light, tell you what shape they’re in, and put them on your calendar.
