Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Service in Owensboro, KY

What happens to each extinguisher
A tech walks the building and puts hands on every extinguisher on the wall. Each one is inspected and serviced.
The tech checks the pin and tamper seal, because a broken seal can mean somebody squeezed the handle. On a stored-pressure unit, the gauge shows the pressure that pushes the agent out, and in the green means there's enough to empty it. CO2 units have no gauge, so they get weighed. The hose and nozzle have to be clear and not cracked. The cylinder can't have dents, rust, or leaks, and the label has to be readable and facing out. It has to hang at the right height with nothing stacked in front of it. And it has to be the right type for what could burn around it.
If one is due for 6-year maintenance or a hydro test, it comes off the wall. Most of the time we leave a spare in that spot. When we can't, we leave a plan.
The 6-year job and the hydro test
The ABC on most walls is a stored-pressure dry chemical unit. Every 6 years it gets opened up. The tech empties it, takes the valve off, and looks inside the cylinder for rust or damage. The valve O-ring gets replaced. Fresh agent goes in, and the unit gets pressurized again.
Then a new verification collar ring goes on the neck, under the valve. That ring only fits with the valve off. So a whole ring means somebody opened the unit.
A hydro test checks the cylinder itself. It gets filled with water and pressurized past what it holds in normal use. If it doesn't leak or stretch out of shape, it passes. Depending on the type, that's every 5 or 12 years.
Hospitals, schools, and offices

The hood system over the line is its own job. A cable runs over the appliances with fusible links along it. Heat melts the solder in a link, the cable lets go, and the system discharges. We inspect and service hood systems every six months. We replace the fusible links at every service, and we trip-test the system with the cartridge removed so nothing discharges. We service all makes of kitchen hood systems. A system that isn't UL 300 has to be replaced.
If one gets used
